YouTube is web service that provides people with a free access to a whole lot of video clips. "Broadcast Your self!!" is the slogan of this advertisement-based company. The number of users of YouTube has been increasing rapidly. I myself have been a user since March 10, 2007. I have worked my way up to 1981. I lost some along the way with controversial video posts, but to hell with that. I love that YouTube allows me to communicate live to the world. I can share footage from my life with those who are interested. I can get feedback and learn from others. There's so many ways to execute tasks and with YouTube I am able to explore the different ways to do such.
I only have a few frustrations. That is that with YouTube one can become an overnight celebrity. I do not think YouTube is to blame, but then again if not YouTube then who? People can become famous for either their lack of talent or their raw talent, but then again I guess that's just how the media works. Just look at Paris Hilton and the Kardashians. Youtube just provides the means to expose one's self. Lastly all the new ads that take ten thousand years to say what they have to say and let me proceed to my video. If the ads pertained to what I am viewing it might be a little different, but I am tired of seeing all these irrelevant and boring ads.
Regardless YouTube allows me to communicate with the rest of the world. I have made some great friends through this web service. I am able to go back and look at my changes throughout the years, but all this is now threatened by the Protect IP Bill.
The basic purpose of YouTube is to provide people with easy access to videos. Not only commercial videos but also personal materials. Users who create home videos or amateur films can have the chance to gain a large audience by uploading onto YouTube. This idea is essentially the same as "blogging " or "vlogging" in which people share their life on the web. However, it's not that easy when it goes beyond one's own videos. YouTube also deals with commercial or public materials which make this system complicated. Since YouTube uploads commercial works produced by companies, copyright issues have to be considered. YouTube has rules of not uploading materials which are not permitted by copyright to do so. However, Youtube's self-censorship isn't organized enough to remove all the illegal materials. I still have videos up with music in the background. Youtube went through and is still currently going through taking down videos that might contain infringement of copyright. Some of my video have been muted. I noticed though that there is now an automatic recognizer. So when i do have music in the background YouTube picks it up and below my video states the artist and title of song. This is only sometimes, so I don't really know what he deal is.
The development of sites like YouTube has made it easy for people to spread what was created by someone else. Internet has changed the basic person to person relationship and the way they communicate to each other. I just hope the all this censorship bull doesn't take it away.
