~._.~Social Network Junkie~._.~...Enabler

I swear I spend countless hours looking for the next "it" social networking site, only to find a site that has 40 active members, not even in my age demographic. I suppose these sites are supposed to help us "stay in contact" with those close to us and also meet others with similar interest, but isn't that what going out is for? Don't get me wrong, social networking sites do just that, but it seems as though social networking has become the story of my life.
The net and I have become best friends;from my YouTube subscribers to my fellow forum buddies. These sites make it easier for me, and I'm sure many others, to not give a damn about how the next person sees me. I can always make sure my photo is edited just right. Right amount of blur and the right amount of color boost. I know that I'll always look my best. I can tell you my life story within 1200 words maybe less. If you want to read it it's right there under my perfectly cropped user photo. All of my interests are perfectly categorized so you can see if we have anything in common. No conversation needed. Here on the net, with the exception of the few pathetic trolls, there are no worries of being rejected. If you want to say wassup or an "lol damn girl you fine" you can shoot me a message. If you don't then you don't even exist to me. The days of going out for a drink are dead.
Social networking has made it so easy for my "shy" side to fade away. I am able to communicate with easy through messages via text or chat, but in doing so I fear that I have lost my ability to communicate with those not in front of my computer screen.

  1. You hit on one of the biggest pitfalls of social networking is...people are losing the ability to be able to interact with each other IN PERSON!!! I agree with you that there are some valuable assets to the web based socializing, but also agree that sharing a story over a cocktail has it's advantages as well, right?!
